Ikaria, the first stop of our 2007 holidays...

Well, holiday season has just finished. We are back to Athens after a two week vacation to Ikaria (Aegean island after the name of Icarus), Samos (birthplace of my and X's mothers) and Turkey. Ikaria was our first stop. The island is on the middle and eastern part of Aegean sea, close to Samos. It's the island were Icarus, according to mythology, fell after his wax wings melted because he was flying too close to the sun (his father had warned him). Lesson: always listen to your parents.

Anyway, the island has some of the most beautiful beaches in Greece and has the tradition of easy-going life that start after midnight. All forms of entertainment (including eating, going out for a drink, dancing) mainly start after midnight and stay up until next morning.

The island is the perfect choice for all people who like waking up after midday and start their day in the afternoon. Camping is a must on this island.

A very nice tradition comes from the district of Raches (Ridges) where shops open to public at night since their owners were busy working on their lands in the morning. A famous bakery is open to public without the owner being present. People get in, take what they need, leave the money and go...As I told you...Ikaria: the easy going island.

Here are some photos, mainly taken on the wonderfull beaches of Nas, Seychelles (!!!) and Livadi.
