Xanthi's Birthday: A day of cooking for 3 hours of fun!
It's been a year since X's last birthday. Not more, not less. A year. X's birthday signifies the beginning of the Xmas period. Xmas are officially here!
X has the idea to throw a party for her close (and not so close friends) and she invited everyone a week in prior so none who would have the excuse to arrange something else. She did all the shopping on Thursday and informed me on how to proceed with all preparations.
I took over the dessert part of party. I stayed till late on Friday night in order to prepare a big birthday cake and cookies to bring an extra holiday feeling to the party. On top of that she prepared a mosaic (frozen chocolate and cookie dessert) as well (in case the birthday cake would turn out bad, ha!).
On Saturday we started at 10 o'clock in the morning in order to be ready and have time to get some rest before people would arrive ('come after 21:30'). Of course, things don't come as we want them to come and I was left (after 19:30) alone to be cooking until the very last minute! 12 hours of sheer cooking fun.
Meny included: pork with walnuts and pomegranate, veal with prunes, kataifi cheesepie, sweet and sour chicken, shrimp noodles, salmon spaghetti, chicken torillas, mushroom pie, betroot salad, green salad, mixed salad, spring rolls, extra rice with raising, mash potato...what else?...oh! and potatoes au gratin. To name a few! (Just kiddin, that was it).
People arrived round 11 (after 21:30, isn't it?) and started devouring the buffet. The birthday cake came out round 01:00 (too much of eating until then!) and the happy hostess/birthday girl blowed her 23 candles.
After a lot of food, sweets, drinks and music the last guest left the house round 03:00 and left us with a house full of dishes, glasses, ashes and leftovers. Of course we left everything for the following day. After 24h of combined cooking we deserved some sleep.
Happy birthday sweetheart. I love you!!!
