Easter vacations in Kerkyra (Corfu)

It's been over two weeks that me and X returned from our Easter holidays in Corfu, but still couldn't find some time to update my blog. Until now!

Well, traveling to Kerkyra is something very common for Greeks, specially for the Easter holidays. Kerkyra is one of the biggest and most touristic islands in Greece and is well known for the Easter customs that take place in its capital, the city of Corfu.

The journey began on Thursday, taking the long way through Patra towards Igoumenitsa (7h drive) and then by boat across to Kerkyra.

The place, as we never have been there before, amazed as and the best was still to come.

First stops was the 'Achilleion', the palace of Princess Sissy and then the 'Mon Repo', the summer palace of the former Greek king family.

On Friday and Saturday morning we came close to our Greek roots by joining all customs of mourning while Saturday night, after the 'Resurrections' festivities took a happier twist as they are supposed to.

Sunday, Easter day, was a day of Luxury as we stayed on one of the best hotels for Corfu, Grecotel Corfu Palace. Festivities turned into numerous numerous numbers of dishes of food and sweets, after two weeks of fasting. The weather was so perfect that we even enjoyed our first bath at the sea for this summer.

On Monday we took the short way home, by taking the ship to Patras (7h of relaxation) and then drove to Athens.
